Gathering for Kingdom Creativity

Over the last year, a group of writers and storytellers has been meeting at my home. It all started at a creative class hosted by our church, where I was teaching on how to write for the stage. There, Megan and I met a young lady named Margaret the Great (a nickname), who would become a friend and core member of our group. After the class ended, time passed, and we finally said, “Hey! Let’s keep meeting.”
Fast forward, we’ve been meeting at my house every other week, more or less . . . with some breaks in-between. With a stroke of tremendous creativity, we called ourselves the Writing Group (sometimes, the Awesome Writing Group).
The agenda ranges from tightly structured (it’s hard to shake my background as a school administrator) to free flowing. Most often, we rotate between discussing a wonderful book called Lifting the Veil by Malcolm Guite and undertaking a writing retreat where we spread throughout the house, play music, eat snacks, and write!
Because of Margaret the Great, we’re always welcoming new storytellers into our home. She’s a fierce advocate for this creative gathering, and what a joy it has become.
I’ve learned many things gathering together, but I’ll leave you with this: we’re not meant to pursue Kingdom creativity alone. We need, I definitely need, like-minded Christians traveling alongside me . . . singing, laughing, eating, and writing!
Friend, if you’re ever in Austin, let me know . . . you must join us!
